Hi! I’m Selena, Founder of Pivotal Moments
Before I share about myself, I want to thank you for being here. I hope something on these pages helps you, or your team, find your own pivotal moment.
My path to this point began in childhood and continued well into my adult life. For as long as I can remember, I was privately plagued by feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt and low self-worth. Looking back, I'm still struck by how much damage can be done merely by the words spoken to you, at you and about you, and how we carry that into the person we grow into.
I went on a mission to find better for myself. It started with self-help books, magazine articles and eventually, believe it or not, CDs from self-development experts (long before the internet and social media were what they are today!).
I always had a deep desire to help people, I just didn't know what that looked like. In my early twenties I studied Life & Business Coaching, which mostly taught me how much of my own work I still had to do. A few years later I moved to London on a working holiday visa, still one of the most pivotal moments of my life. For the first time, I was free from the conditioning and expectations of those around me, and I got to discover who I actually was, not who others thought I should be.
Fast forward a few more years and I was deep in the corporate world, living a life that felt completely disconnected again. I'd come full circle: stuck in a job I hated, but doing nothing to change it. Eventually I landed a role that gave me the opportunities I'd always dreamt of, and it sparked a renewed desire for growth, both for myself and as a leader.
Over two decades in corporate, I've led teams, worked with difficult people, navigated expectations and performed under pressure, in both uplifting and incredibly toxic workplaces. I know how much the culture around us can either lift us up or slowly wear us down. And I know what it's like to try to be successful while also trying to be yourself.
What I learnt along the way
I collected a lot of tools on my own journey: coaching, Human Design, DISC, and now neuroscience. Every one of them helped. But none of them is what changed me.
What changed me was understanding why I kept doing the things I knew weren't working, and learning to trust myself enough to choose differently.
That's the work I do now. I don't see people who are stuck as lazy, unmotivated or lacking discipline. I see someone who has developed a way of being that has become familiar and predictable, even if it isn't working anymore.
I see the person underneath the behaviour
When someone tells me "I'm a people pleaser", I'm interested in what happens inside them when they choose themselves. When someone says "I know what I should do but I can't do it", I'm interested in what's happening emotionally, physiologically and in their environment that keeps pulling them back to the familiar.
I listen, notice and connect the dots. I'll ask the question you hadn't considered, hold up a mirror, and challenge the stories that keep you where you are, all in a safe enough space for you to be honest.
The tools sit underneath that work, each with a job:
Neuroscience explains the why: stress, emotional regulation, habit formation and decision-making
Human Design is a self-awareness lens for how you naturally operate
DISC is a communication lens for teams, conflict and workplace dynamics
Coaching is the process: questions, reflection, challenge, accountability and action
Corporate experience is the real-world context that ties it all together

My Mission
Today I work with organisations through Workshops and The Safe Space Sessions, ongoing confidential coaching that gives employees a trusted outlet separate from HR or management. And I work with individuals through The Growth Room, a community and small-group program for people ready to stop repeating the same patterns.
My mission is to help people, and the organisations they work in, move from reaction to choice.
